Adding Material
To build your path toward profitability, you must first understand the costs of your raw materials. Prophit allows you to track the cost of ingredients and materials.
Definitions:
Ingredients: Components of the product itself (typically edible components)
Materials: Components outside of the product (typically packaging materials)
This article will show you how to add materials to your database that you use in creating your products and packaging.
In this article:
Add material name, supplier, and brand
To add a new material, hover over Inventory in the side navigation bar and select Materials
On the Materials page, click on the Add Material button (or click on the New Material plus sign at the top-right if you already have materials in your database).
Enter in your material's name
Enter in the name of your material's supplier
Enter in the name of your material's brand
Add material image
Click Upload Image
Browse your local computer's drive to find your desired material image and select it

Adding material's unit measurement and unit price
In the Unit Measurement box, in the Type dropdown box, select the unit of measurement (currently, Each (ea) is the only option).
In the Quantity field, enter in the quantity of the unit type. For example, if you purchase 500 custom labels from your supplier, you want to enter 500 into this field.
Optional. Enter in the percentage of your material's waste in the % Waste field.
In the Unit Price box, add your material's price, and sales tax and/or additional fees (if necessary)
Note: Adj. Qty (Adjusted Quantity) will reflect your material's total quantity minus the percent of waste.
Tip: Take advantage of % Waste. Prophit allows you to account for this loss in material, in order to calculate a more accurate material cost.
Entering your material's inventory count
In the Inventory field, enter your material's stock.
Tip: Tracking your inventory will come in handy once you jump into Fulfillment – saving you countless time in managing inventory for ingredients and materials.
Adding a material description
In the Product Description box, add a detailed description of your material.
Tip: The more descriptive you get about your materials, the easier it will be to entrust others with managing your inventory, and purchasing the raw materials needed to manufacture your products, as your business continues to grow.
Saving your material
Once you have entered all of your new material's information, make sure to click the Save button at the top-right. Once saved, your material will display on your Materials page.
